Mercedes Benz has finally launched the most awaited version of the G-Class. The new G-Class will be called as G63 AMG which will replace the G55 AMG in India. The new G-Wagen made its public debut at 2012 Beijing Auto Show and since then the design has largely remained unchanged.

The new Mercedes Benz G63 AMG gets a twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine which churns out a power of 544 bhp and is mated to an updated seven speed 7G-tronic gearbox. The SUV gets stop-start and brake energy recuperation systems which help in improving fuel economy. The car also has a permanent 4-wheel drive technology which helps it attain 0-100km/hr in just 5.4 seconds.
Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, Eberhard Kern said, “The G-Class has the essential attributes of a Mercedes Benz Dynamism, Comfort, Safety and Status. Yet its pedigree and classic form has been retained across the 34 years of its existence. The G-Class retains its shape, rugged design and the same mission to cope with extreme conditions. It’s not surprising therefore that the G-Class is called upon to serve in extreme terrains; its cult status makes it the vehicle of choice of world leaders and celebrities alike. The G 63 AMG reconciles an involving, compelling driving experience with performance, functionality and timeless appeal which is exceptional in this vehicle class. We are excited to introduce the G 63 AMG for the discerning Indian customers.”

The G-Class will also be seen in the upcoming movie sequel ‘A Good Day to Die-Hard’ featuring Bruce Willis as a main actor. The launch of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG in India has also been the platform to announce the premier of the much awaited movie.
If we look at the exterior styling, the G63 AMG gets a two-slat grille, a deeper front bumper with larger air ducts, red brake calipers and unique 20” alloy wheels. The SUV also receives side mounted exhaust pipes that exit from underneath the rear doors on either side.
The new G-Class now comes loaded with technology from inside like Mercedes-Benz’s hi-tech Distronic Plus radar controlled cruise control system, Blind Spot Assist and the parking aid Partktronic with a reverse camera. The Electronic Stability Program with Trailer Stability Assist and a hill hold function. The other upgrades noticed were a revised instrument pack brought over from the third-gen M-class together with a colour monitor and Merc’s latest Comand system.
